New Delhi (24.03.2024): Parliament on March 24, 2023 disqualified Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as a Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) after a Surat court found him guilty of defamation and sentenced him to two years in prison. Announcing his disqualification, the Lok Sabha Secretariat in a notificationsaid that it is effective from March 23, which reads: ''Consequent upon his conviction by the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Surat...Rahul Gandhi, Member of Lok Sabha representing the Wayanad Parliamentary Constituency of Kerala stands disqualified from the membership of Lok Sabha from the date of his conviction i.e. 23 March, 2023.''
