New Delhi (01.12.2025): The administrative leadership of the Lok Sabha will maintain its continuity, with Speaker Om Birla granting an extension of tenure to Utpal Kumar Singh (Retd IAS: 1986: UD) as the Secretary General of the Lok Sabha and the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
Having completed his fifth year in the coveted position, he now embarks on his sixth year term.
The move, seen as an attempt to ensure stability in the complex administrative process of 'floor management' within the Parliament, comes as Singh concludes his previous term. 

Though the Speaker’s office did not specify the exact duration of the new tenure, the successive extensions highlight a sustained reliance on Singh's institutional knowledge.

The extension is effective from December 1, 2025, and allows Singh to continue in the post with the rank and status equivalent to a Cabinet Secretary—the highest position in the civil services hierarchy.

Singh has had a long run in the coveted chair. Prior to taking over as Secretary General, where he succeeded Snehlata Shrivastava (Retd IAS: 1982: MP), Singh had served as the Chief Secretary of the Government of Uttarakhand.
