Bengaluru (12.05.2025): The incumbent Director General and Head of the Police Force of Karnataka, Dr Alok Mohan (IPS: 1987: KN) is scheduled to retire next week i.e. May 21, 2025 amidst speculations over the possibility of an ad hoc arrangement. Dr Alok replaced Praveen Sood (IPS: 1986: KN) on May 21, 2023 on his appointment as Director CBI.
It is assumed that the Government of Karnataka would have to make a stop-gap arrangement for the post of State DGP as UPSC may need some more time to evaluate the names sent to it and recommend a panel for govt’s consideration.
Reportedly, the panel sent to the UPSC comprises Prashant Kumar Thakur (IPS: 1992: KN), DG fire and emergency services; M Abdullah Saleem (IPS: 1993: KN), DG Criminal Investigation Department; K Ramachandra Rao (IPS: 1993: KN), CMD of Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation and Pronab Mohanty (IPS: 1994: KN), DG- Internal Security Division (ISD) and Cyber Command. Most of the probable candidates have reasonably adequate tenure in service ranging between two to three years.
