New Delhi (14.05.2023): The selection committee comprising of the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of India, the Leader of Opposition has reportedly, picked up the name of Praveen Sood (IPS: 1986: KN), the incumbent DGP of Karnataka for the post of Director, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Subject to ACC ratification Sood will succeed the outgoing Director Subodh Kumar Jaiswal (IPS:1985:MH) who will be completing two years fixed tenure on May 25.

LoP in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury writes a dissent note on the appointment of Praveen Sood as CBI director for not being in the original list. Result of Karnataka Assembly polls and state DGP's likely appointment as CBI chief coincided. It may be underlined that the Sood, Centre's foremost choice, was called stooge of the BJP by none other than senior Congress leader D K Shivkumar. He also demanded his arrest. But sitting in Delhi, Sood may make things difficult for the Congress in Karnataka which too is prone to corruption charges, an inference is being drawn. CJI was part of the panel besides the PM and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury to take a call on the name of CBI director. Names of Praveen Sood, Sudhir Kumar Saxena (IPS: 1987: MP) and Taj Hassan (IPS: 1987: AGMUT) is said to have been sent to ACC for ratification.
