The much talked about and speculated move to shift K Kailashnathan (Retd IAS:1979: GJ), who's widely seen as PM Narendra Modi's official troubleshooter, is said to have been dropped in view of the power struggle inside the new Gujarat government.
Under the revised plan, KK may continue at Gandhinagar to do the firefighting job whenever required in view of the apparent tension between CM Vijay Ropani and his deputy CM Nitin Patel.
The tension between the top two leaders is said to be the fallout of the recently-held assembly elections in which the Patels, a dominant farming caste, asserted itself and narrowed the BJP's tally of seats to 99 - the lowest ever the party got ever since it wrested power from the Congress in the mid-1990s.
Since the BJP MLAs belonging to the Patel community number as many as 32, there is a real danger of the ruling party splitting on the caste line if the conflict of interests between the Patels and the non-Patels is not deftly managed and moderated.
And who could do this job better than KK who is familiar with each and every leader?
