Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani has initiated structural reforms. Three media units - Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), Song and Drama Division and Directorate of Field Publicity - are being integrated to create a single Bureau of Outreach and Communication with a unified command. The integration process will be completed over six months. The Ministry has set up a three-member team to sort out all the problems that may arise in integrating the three units which have been functioning as independent units since 1960.
In addition, Ms. Irani has also transferred more than a score of Indian Information Service Officers from Delhi to other parts of the country. Since everyone loves Delhi posting, the move has apparently caused a lot of unhappiness among IIS officers.
