New Delhi (09.04.2024): Former Union minister General V K Singh has been denied ticket from Ghaziabad but is it correct to say so? Certainly not. Well-placed sources informed Indianmandarins that he is likely to be drafted as the new LG of Jammu and Kashmir which needs a person with hands on experience of the region. The incumbent LG Manoj Sinha is likely to be fielded from his traditional seat Ghazipur from where he was defeated in 2019 Lok Sabha polls by BSP candidate Afzal Ansari -- brother of Mafia Don Mukhtar Ansari who died recently.
Any light weight candidate on the seat may give edge to Ansari whose conviction was suspended by the Supreme Court in December 2023 making him eligible to contest 2024 LS election.
In the event of speculations turning true in next few days General Singh’s appointment as Lt Governor would assume further significance. Logically, having over ten years of experience as union minister coupled with his career in defence would make it more meaningful.
In addition, the decision, as speculated, would also address the issue of Rajputs being angry with the BJP in Gujarat, Rajasthan and some other parts of the country due to some derogatory statements made by some BJP leaders against the community.
Further, Manoj Sinha being fielded from Ghazipur will also be looked upon as bringing him into the mainstream and will woo influential Bhumihar community both in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai is also in touch with the Central leadership and may come back to his original party anytime and it is also being said that Sinha is behind this to mobilise Bhumihars of the region in favour of the BJP.
