New Delhi (17.12.2024): Pawan Khera, who knows Delhi better than many in the Congress for running the government and also the party under the tutelage of former Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, failed to make a cut into the recently announced names of candidates for Assembly polls likely to be held in February 2025. His wait is getting longer as he successively failed to get nominated for the Rajya Sabha despite delivering on the role assigned to him. He painfully blamed himself for not living up to the expectation and continued with the work assigned to him by the party.
The Congress has a battery of spokespersons and many domain experts to manage any crisis that the party, if any, is faced with but for the phenomenal rise of communication department head Pawan Khera the credit goes to his talent, articulation, aggression and arguments on all important issues. The party leadership can turn to him on any crucial issue on which view of the party is to be presented with logical alacrity.
Kheda is INC’s face whose words send fear down the spine to the opponents. Whether dealing with corruption allegations and controversy surrounding SEBI chief Madhabi Buch or the Assembly polls in Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand or any other intensely debatable issue, Pawan Khera proved to be the most crucial face of the Congress to take on the opponents.
The quintessential point is not about him being a well-prepared spokesperson to deal with opponents but he nurtured and created a space for himself with commitment, dedication and hard work. He picked up the most sensitive and such issues that others avoided to dabble with or in other words party found him the most competent to address these issues making him more or less indispensable. Pawan Khera’s arguments defending Congress are strong, accurate, to the point and factually sound to unnerve opponents. This is not a one-day accomplishment but he achieved these extraordinary feet with consistent efforts to learn and grow for more than seven years with consistency to prove a point that he is most dependable face for the high command of the Congress.
Khera’s tenure as OSD to former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit was his crucial tenure where he picked the skills of running the big show. He rose up the ladder and now occupies another prime position at the AICC. The Delhi Congress might have been his domain in the past but he is now fully engrossed in his new role at the AICC headquarters. He is the most aggressive and probably the most dependable spokesperson to deal with the uncomfortable controversial issues.
There are a few contradictions as well. Whenever Rajya Sabha seats are vacant and the high command adopts lottery system, someone else gets accommodated to the Rajya Sabha and Khera is left with no option but waiting for the next turn which has gone very long. But nothing has undermined his numero uno position as a person to quench queries of the media and he is the most reliable and known face of the Congress. There are not many in the Congress to match his skills and acumen.
