Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that outgoing Director (Commercial) in Air India Pankaj Srivastava has been denied an extension ahead of his retirement on attaining 58 years of on April 30. Reportedly, the additional charge of the post will be given to another Board-level executive until the selection and appointment of a regular incumbent.
Reportedly, Srivastava was likely to be given an extension but certain developments spiked his prospects. First and foremost, AIL is undergoing a divestment process; secondly, a large number of similarly-placed top executives were recently relieved, and, therefore, an extension to Srivastava was against the precedence and could have triggered resentment amongst the rest. And finally, Srivastava's extension would have denied chances to other eligible officials.
It may be mentioned that Air India has five Board-level posts including that of the CMD. Of five, the post of Director (Personnel) is running vacant and one more post will fall vacant following the retirement of Srivastava.
