New Delhi (12.03.2024): Hardly had Madhup Kumar Tiwari (IPS: 1995: AGMUT) got into the key posting as Special Commissioner of Police for Law & Order he was sent to Chandigarh as DGP on February 9, 2024. People gleefully gave their verdict that this was done in view of the Lok Sabha elections but today when Union Home Ministry cancelled his transfer orders along with Devesh Chandra Shrivastava (IPS: 1995: AGMUT) barely a week before the announcement of Lok Sabha polls, the same set of people are clueless that what transpired this reshuffle. Such changes in bureaucracy are not only rare but it doesn’t go well with men in uniform.

Surendra Kumar Yadav (IPS: 1997: AGMUT) who was transferred from Delhi to take over as DGP, A&NI, has been appointed as DGP, Chandigarh. Yadav was earlier the Special Commissioner of Police (CP) of Economic Offences Wing (EOW) while Tiwari was serving as Special CP L&O. He was rushed from Andaman & Nicobar Island to Delhi in January 2022 right ahead of Republic Day as Special CP (Security). 

Speculation is rife that the way Chandigarh Mayoral elections was messed up and the role of Anil Masih created huge embarrassment, the reshuffle seems to be linked to the matter. The latest reshuffle provided fodder to the further speculations. The incumbent DG of Arunachal Pradesh Devesh Chandra Srivastava (IPS: 1995: AGMUT) was in earlier notification transferred to Delhi Police but today’s notification put his Delhi posting on halt; though for the time being only. 

Though the notification issued today has nothing to do with Ajay Chaudhary (IPS: 1996: UT) who recently came back from Meghalaya to Delhi Police as Special CP (SPUWAK) but it triggers the buzz that he may replace S S Yadav as Special CP EoW sooner or later. 

Sources say that upon his shift from Delhi to Chandigarh, Madhup Tiwari had made a representation against the same claiming that when he was given Law & Order, a key assignment, fifteen days back then what was the need to move him from Delhi to Chandigarh. Reportedly, it worked and he retained the key position which may go well with the Poorvanchali sections in Delhi ahead of LS Polls 2024.
