New Delhi (29.12.2023): With the appointment and regularisation of Nina Singh as DG, a 1989-batch IPS officer of Rajasthan cadre, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has got the first woman chief. While working as Special DG she held the additional charge of DG CISF w.e.f. 01.09.2023 following the superannuation of Sheel Vardhan Singh (IPS:1986:BH) on 31.08.2023.
Singh will command a 1.76 lakh-strong force (till her superannuation) which guards key establishments across India that includes civil airports, industrial installations, sensitive aerospace and nuclear installations, metro rails, dams and union government’s buildings and premises.She holds a masters degree in public administration from Harvard University in the US. She is married to her batchmate Rohit Kumar Singh (IAS: 1989: RJ) who currently serves as Union Secretary for Consumer Affairs. She was awarded the Ati Utkrisht Seva Medal for professional excellence in 2020, the report stated.
The 1989-batch IPS officer was also the first woman to hold the top police post in Rajasthan out of six DG-rank officers in the state police force. During her six-year stint at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was in-charge of the high-profile Sheena Bora murder and Jiah Khan suicide cases.
She also handles sensitive assignments including civil rights and anti-human trafficking cell. She has co-authored two research papers with Nobel laureates Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo and has also worked on a project for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2005-2006 to make police stations more approachable.
