Ranchi (30.10.2024): One may call it a poll plot in Jharkhand but apparently it was nothing less than a dramatic blockbuster of Bollywood movie. Can a “proposer”, whose job ends with signing poll nomination papers, overshadow a candidate? The answer is simple “No”. But the panic-stricken CM office is blamed for a car chase and detention of CM Hemant Soren’s “Proposer” in Giridih.
The angry Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) stepped into the matter on Tuesday pulling up Jharkhand Chief Secretary and DGP during virtual meeting related to the elections. The ruling JMM is apprehensive that Mandal Murmu, the proposer of CM Hemant Soren, is hobnobbing with the BJP. Reportedly, Jharkhand police not only chased Murmu’s car but detained him as well. The CEC while pulling up CS & DGP underscored that the series of unfortunate events failed to follow the SOPs and protocol applied during the Model Code of Conduct.
The ECI said that while taking them into custody, the police should have recorded the video and record the same or follow other procedures. Also, if a vehicle is stopped during a poll check and no illegal cash or liquor was found the vehicle should have been released.
