Alok Verma is still not out of the woods. The selection committee on
the CBI chief comprising PM Narendra Modi, Justice A.K. Sikri and leader of
Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, formed after Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi
nominated Justice AK Sikri’s name to the committee on Wednesday, may decide on
the policy-making powers of the reinstated CBI chief Alok Verma within a week. Although on his first day
back on the job, Verma reversed all transfer/posting orders that interim chief
Nageshwar Rao had taken, he is still not out of trouble despite being reinstated Indianmandarins has learned
that the selection committee may discuss the Central Vigilance Commission’s
(CVC) report on the bribery and graft charges against Verma. Until the
committee clears him of the charges, Verma’s complete decision-making authority
