as-economy-decelerates-bjp-tries-to-keep-a-bold-faceThe economic deceleration has begun to cast its shadow of gloom over the NaMo administration. To deal with the political fallout of the problem, the BJP has decided to call all elected representatives - 1,400 MLAs across the country, 337 MPs and MLCs in addition to all important and core group members from across States - to the extended meeting of the national executive meeting on September 25 - that is today. The national executive meeting is usually attended only by members or special invitees, Altogether over 2,000 delegates will participate in this extraordinary session because the BJP leadership has come to feel an urgent necessity for a strong and coordinated political response to the economic slowdown and related concerns as the opposition is determined to run down the government on this critical score. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to personally address all elected representatives of the party on Monday. And pep them up for facing the public with the success of several government schemes - like Jan Dhan, Ujjawala, etc. But this does not mean that the government is confident about macroeconomic performance. To boost growth, it has started discreetly sounding the RBI to reduce the prime rates in its half-yearly review of the monetary policy in October. The government may seem to believe that an easier monetary policy along with more measures may still turn the tide and activate the dormant growth impulses in the economy. An official internal review is said to have shown that the manufacturing sector continues to lag due to the impact of demonetization, rollout of GST and appreciation of the rupee.
