Indianmandarins was first to report, on 14 September & 19 September (Web-link below), that Dr. Bibek Debroy, Member, NITI Aayog, would be appointed as the Chairman to the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM). An official announcement was made to this effect on September 25. Besides the chairman, the council will have four members - Dr. Surjit Bhalla, part-time Member; Dr. Rathin Roy, part-time Member; Dr. Ashima Goyal, part-time Member; and Ratan Watal, Principal Advisor, NITI Aayog-Member-Secretary.  The terms of reference of the EAC would be as follows: (i) To analyze any issue, economic or otherwise, referred to it by the Prime Minister and advising him thereon; (ii) To address issues of macroeconomic importance and presenting views thereon to the Prime Minister. This could be either suo-motu or on reference from the Prime Minister or anyone else; (iii) To attend to any other task as may be desired by the Prime Minister from time to time.
