New Delhi (20.12.2024): If sources are to be believed, Amitabh Jain (IAS: 1989: CG), the incumbent Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh, is vying for the post of State Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of the state post-retirement. He was appointed CS in November 2020 when there was a Congress government in the state under Bhupesh Baghel as the CM. Despite being empanelled to hold secretary-level post, Jain remained in the state serving as the longest CS.
Jain has already applied for the post. In case his candidature is accepted and he is picked up for the coveted position, he would have to seek VRS from the service months before his retirement scheduled for July 31, 2025.
He continued as the CS even after Vishnu Deo Sai of the BJP has taken over as the CM of the state which certainly needs an unfathomable trust acumen to walk the tight rope. Now, when the tenure of Jain is coming to an end in July 2025 which is a history of the shot for any CS serving such a long tenure, he is trying to get appointed as state CIC. Most of the bureaucrats wish to get appointed as CIC post-retirement for its fringe benefits besides many other. A CIC gets benefits of a driver, a government vehicle, office assistant and many other related benefits for life long which is something makes a State CIC position a valued and prized one.
