Lucknow (11.06.2025): Without much of a noise, the Uttar Pradesh government under Yogi Adityanath has appointed over 1.5 lakh constables in the state police in his eight-year tenure and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will formally appoint 60,244 new police constables at Lucknow's Defense Expo Ground on June 15, 2025. But there are many news points in this political development.
The First Point: The invitation to Amit Shah was extended by none other than Yogi Adityanath himself by visiting him and reports are coming that both of them have buried their hatchets to work in tandem not only for the next Panchayat and local body elections but 2027 Assembly elections. Yogi Adityanath personally invited Shah during their Delhi meeting on Monday. Selected candidates from all 75 districts will be accommodated by Lucknow Police, with senior ministers and officials attending the programme. After the ceremony, recruits will undergo a district-level general training from June 22 and a nine-month basic training at regional centers starting from July. The mega recruitment drive includes a record 12,048 women - the highest female induction in UP Police history.
The Second Point: It needs to be highlighted that the recruitment process was done so smoothly under the guidance of incumbent officiating DGP of Uttar Pradesh Rajiv Krishna (IPS: 1991: UP) who is also in-charge of the recruitment process. He is being appreciated for conducting free and fair recruitment without any controversy. A section in UP’s who’s who is saying that he was rewarded as DGP for this only.
The Third Point: The Uttar Pradesh government was working with 1.5 lakh police force against the sanctioned strength of 3 lakh that will be addressed after these new recruits are given joining letter. The government intends to take this number to 3.5 lakh as per the requirement of the state. The way Uttar Pradesh government was working, the police were overburdened in the state.
The Fourth Point: Yogi Adityanath presented a statue of Lord Krishna to Shah. The Uttar Pradesh government is working on Mathura corridor which is an indication that after Ayodhya and Kashi, now they want to do something in Mathura. Yogi Adityanath has long been talking about ‘liberating’ Matura. But the important point is that body language of Yogi and Shah was never the same before as now it is visible. So a new alignment to take on the opposition?
