Only seven days were left for his retirement on December 23, 2015 when he got three months extension beginning January 01, 2016.
Indianmandarins had said in its report dated November 07 last year that Ashok Kumar Jain (IAS:1981:RJ) was the front runner for the coveted job but Rajan's extension put his prospects on hold. Rajan was appointed as CS on October 30, 2014 after Rajiv Mehrishi had moved to Centre as Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs.
