It is heard in power corridors that a move is afoot to abolish newly-created 26 posts of Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax. These posts were created by a cadre restructuring of CBDT. Since these posts fall in Apex Scale (Rs 80,000 Grade) and enable the IRS IT cadre to acquire posts equivalent to Secretary in Govt of India, the IAS lobby has seen it as an encroachment into their exclusive domain. Hence, a cabinet note has been recently initiated for abolishing these posts. Whether the move would succeed remains to be seen.
