New Delhi (12.04.2023): If the government order is executed, the Indian Women’s Press Corps (IWPC) will have to look for a new address as it has been asked to vacate the bungalow it operates from yonder Le Meridian Hotel in New Delhi at the earliest and pay ₹18.9 lakh for its ‘unauthorised occupation’ since August last year. IWPC elections are scheduled for April 15, 2023.

But what prompted this action? There are contrary views on this. A section believes that it has become a den of government bashing sometimes unreasonable. So the government wants to rid of them. But this is rebuffed by the others saying that Directorate of Estates is very particular about getting its properties under illegal occupation vacated else pay the rent at the market rate. The management of IWPC even requested their fellow members close to the government to rescue them but of no avail. Late veteran journalist Prabhas Joshi is so very true when he had said that journalism is intrinsically linked to politics. He will prove to be right yet again if something positive happens for IWPC. Wait and watch.
