van-dhan-scheme-may-enhance-tribals-income-krishnaPravir Krishna, MP cadre IAS officer and managing director of TRIFED, an organisation of Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, believes that the Van Dhan scheme of the central government can become a vehicle of imparting training to tribals on adding value to their raw minor forest produce and earn more and live a life of dignity. Busy with the setting up of Van Dhan Vikas Kendras in various tribal districts of the country, Krishna believes that the intended training on value addition can turn raw minor forest produce with Rs two lakh crores now into goods of six to 10 lakh crores in the coming years. He added the government is in the process of organizing training and financial assistance for tribals to encourage them to go for value addition. The government would also help them in accessing market and mandis. Besides, the government will help them store the produce in cold storage and transport the produce from one place to another for sale. "Running a business is not an easy task. Even if 40% to 50% of the groups succeed this will be considered a good success rate. The rest will be further given training and assistance to get involved in the business again", said Krishna. He said there were various products made by tribals being sold online. E-commerce of the products will be launched formally on May 20. This would also help tribals earn enhanced income.
