1986 batch IPS officer S P Vaid named as successor to K rajendra Kumar, the outgoing DGP who is set to complete his extended tenure on 31 December 2016.
The State Cabinet on Wednesday evening cleared Vaid's name as next DGP. Vaid, a native of J&K, has immense experience in operations against the militants. In September 1991, the officer survived a major bomb-explosion while serving as SP, Jammu. Militants ambushed him in March 1999 when he was posted as DIG in Baramulla-Kupwara range near Sopore.
