New Delhi (07.07.2021): This is not a reshuffle but a big reset that has been effected by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister has brought in Sarbananda Sonowal, Narayan Rane and Jyotiraditya Scindia as Cabinet ministers while dropping as many as 12 ministers including Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, IT and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar. Union cabinet will now have 15new Cabinet ministers. Some new faces took oath of the office in at the swearing-in ceremony held in the Darbar Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhawan while some of them have been promoted to cabinet ranks. Total 43 persons took oath of the office including those getting a promotion, which is apparently one of the most inclusive with record representation of SC, ST members. The Modi government accommodated its allies as well in the reshuffle with JD(U), LJP and Apna Dal getting their representation in the council of minister with RCP Singh, Pashupati Kumar Paras and Anupriya Patel being the prominent names. Rane, 69, a Rajya Sabha MP and former chief minister of Maharashtra, was the first to take oath. After Rane, Sonowal, another former chief minister (Assam), took oath. The 58-year-old leader has earlier served as Union Minister of State (Independent charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship; and Sports and Youth Affairs under Prime Minister Modi. Jyotiraditya Scindia, a Rajya Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh, also took oath as a Cabinet minister.He had served as Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power and Union Minister of State for Commerce and Communications in the Manmohan Singh government. Lok Sabha MP from Tikamgarh in Madhya Pradesh Virendra Kumar, Rajya Sabha MP from Odisha Ashwini Vaishnaw, Rajya Sabha MP from Bihar and JD(U) leader R C P Singh, Lok Sabha MP from Hajipur in Bihar Pashupati Kumar Paras were also sworn-in as Cabinet ministers. The new council of minister will be a mix of youth and those with administrative experience including former chief ministers. There will be a special focus on bringing down the average age of the Modi cabinet, post-expansion there will be 14 ministers below the age of 50, and six will be in the cabinet.
