Bhubaneswar (04.12.2024): Tenure of Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja (IAS: 1990: OD), which will be completed by the end of this month, is likely to be extended for at least six months or more beyond December 31, 2024.
Notably, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Odisha took over on June 12, 2024 and Ahuja assumed the charge of Chief Secretary on July 1, 2024 after returning to the State on repatriation following the request of the Mohan Charan Majhi government. Before joining as the CS, he was the Secretary of the Agriculture department.
Sources said that there are several reasons for which the Chief Secretary will be given an extension. One of the main reasons is the management of the upcoming Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, which is slated to be held on January 7 and 8 in Odisha.
But when Ahuja the then Union Agriculture Secretary was prematurely repatriated to his home cadre, it was clear that he was not being appointed CS for a short tenure. He is needed in the state to make the flavour and functioning of the state BJP-centric after the 24-year-long rule of the Naveen Patnaik government.
