New Delhi (24.10.2025): In a significant administrative move, the Yogi Adityanath government has appointed Archana Agrawal (IAS: 1990: UP) as the new Chairperson, State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) and Additional Chief Secretary, Transport Department, Uttar Pradesh. The appointment follows Agrawal's repatriation from the Government of India, where she served as Secretary, National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB).
The appointment underscores the state's prioritization of experienced leadership for critical infrastructure roles as it seeks to scale up regional connectivity and logistics capacity. Her transition from a planning role to an executive transport position signals the government's intent to inject a high-level, results-oriented focus into the sector.
Archana Agrawal’s placement is viewed as a key decision to potentially drive a strategic overhaul within the state's transport infrastructure and the SRTC's operational efficiency. Her experience in large-scale planning, particularly within the crucial NCR framework, suggests a mandate focused on modernization, financial turnaround, and route optimization for the public transport enterprise. The SRTC, a critical component of UP's logistics and commuter network, faces ongoing challenges in profitability and fleet management.
Administrative Restructuring:
To formalize her posting, the government relieved Amit Gupta (IAS: 2000: UP) of the additional charge for the Transport Department and SRTC. Gupta will retain his primary role as Principal Secretary, Stamp and Registration Department. This decision separates the key administrative and operational leadership roles, ensuring focused attention on the Transport and Stamp & Registration departments, respectively.
