Who may replace AP DGP Sambasiva Rao (IPS:1984:AP) who is scheduled to retire on December 31.
According to the state seniority list of IPS officers, the potential candidates for the coveted post include V S K Kaumudi (IPS:1984:AP), Rampravesh Thakur (IPS:1986:AP), Damodar Gautam Sawang (IPS:1986:AP), and Vinay Ranjan Ray (IPS:1986:AP) among others.
Even though the state government wanted to retain the services of Rao, it ran into difficulties with the UPSC. So the AP government formulated an ordinance seeking power for the state government to choose DGP of its choice, but Governor ESL Narasimhan may not be inclined to oblige the state government, even if he chooses to do so in view of the complex and established procedures established by law in the appointment of DGP.
Meantime, Rao himself has reportedly opted to discontinue after retirement
