New Delhi (12.08.2024): Weeks ahead of the completion of a year-long extended tenure of Shrikant Madhav Vaidya the Search-cum-selection-committee on Sunday interacted with approx. a dozen of candidates to find out his suitable successor as Chairman, IOCL. A three-member search-cum-selection committee headed by Mallika Sriniwasan (Chairman, PESB) included Petroleum Secretary Pankaj Jain (IAS: 1990: AM) and former HPCL Chairman M K Surana as members.
Reportedly, one-sixth of applicants were called for selection interview at Shastri Bhawan which houses the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. Most of the candidates interviewed were from IOCL but an external candidate is said to have been leading the race with a clear edge over others. Even though indications are clear it may take some time to unravel as who will be the new Chairman of the Fortune 500 company.
It may well be underlined that when the selection process adopts SCSC-route it is assumed to use its discretion and powers to find out a deserving candidate.
Vidya was scheduled to retire on 31.08.2023 but he earned a year-long extended tenure upto 31.08.2024 on re-employment and a contract basis. Sources say that Vaidya, who is supposed to be a factor, may get a few more weeks to run the affairs till SCSC’s recommendation gets ACC’s validation.
