New Delhi (01.09.2022): Ravi Capoor (Retd IAS:1986:AM) was relieved of his duties as Sansad TV’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) on Wednesday, the day he completed his tenure. As per the relieving order issued on Wednesday he has been allowed to retain the government bungalow for a maximum period of one month.
Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh will additionally discharge the functions of CEO Sansad TV.
Speculations are rife that a new face, preferably a professional, may be brought in to helm Sansad TV.
To a section of who’s who the non-extension to Capoor assumes significance in the backdrop of the recent extension given to Rajya Sabha Secretary General Pramod Chandra Mody (retd IRS IT:1982) for another term up to December 2024. They presumed that like Mody, Capoor could get an extension.
It is also rumored that Sansad TV would be pulled away from Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha would be the ‘sole owner’. In that case, LS Speaker, Om Birla would (probably) be bringing a person of his own choice as the CEO. Though, it appears unlikely.
Contrary to these possibilities Indianmandarins has learned that Capoor is not a finished chapter and he still has a long way to go.
One should not forget that Prasar Bharti is still running under an ad hoc arrangement which is not a mere coincidence.
When Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati’s tenure came to an end in the second week of June this year it was rumored that DD and Sansad TV would be merged and be brought under the Prasar Bharati.
In case this rumor still stands a chance then Capoor has some reason to rejoice as he can look to become its next chief.
