New Delhi (01.09.2022): The senior ONGC Board member Rajesh Kumar Srivastava, Director (Exploration), has been entrusted with an additional charge of CMD "for a period of four months beginning today. Srivastava will lead ONGC  until he retires on December 31, 2022, or until further orders.
It’s an irony that India's Maharatna company and world's one of the biggest oil and gas producers ONGC has been waiting for its leadership for over one and a half years (i.e. since 01.04.2021). After Shashi Shanker superannuated on 31.03.2021 the additional charge of CMD was given to ONGC Director (Finance) Subhash Kumar. The second interim CMD Alka Mittal superannuated yesterday.
The search-cum-selection committee, headed by the PESB chairman Ms Mallika Srinivasan and comprising oil secretary and Ex-IOCL chairman B Ashok (outside expert), interacted with six candidates on August 27 including BPCL Chairman Arun Kumar Singh, EIL CMD Vartika Shukla.
The government’s decision of relaxing the age for candidature is set to bring interesting results.
It may be underlined that prior to this the minimum age prescribed for eligibility was 45 years. Besides, internal candidates needed to have 2 yrs of residual service as of the date of vacancy and 3 yrs for external candidates.
In the present arrangement candidates under 60 years of age on the date of occurrence of the vacancy i.e. 01.04.2021 were considered that made many retired and retiring top executives eligible including; Alka Mittal (retired), RK Srivastava (retiring in December 2022). Previously, only Director (Offshore) Pankaj Kumar and Director (T&FS) Om Prakash Singh were eligible.
