The incumbent DGP of Maharashtra Rashmi Shukla (IPS: 1988: MH) is retiring on December 31, 2025. Sadanand Date (IPS: 1990: MH) on March 31, 2024 took over reins of the National Investigation Agency (NIA). His name figured in the list of seven officers’ panel that was sent to UPSC to decide a panel of three officers to choose a DGP from. 

Sadanand Date's tenure is noteworthy as he is scheduled to retire on December 31, 2026, giving him a longer potential run in the top office if selected. The other names included: Sanjay Verma (IPS: 1990: MH), Ritesh Kumar (IPS: 1992: MH), Sanjeev Kumar Singhal (IPS: 1992: MH), Archana Tyagi (IPS: 1993: MH), Sanjeev Kumar (IPS: 1993: MH) and Prashant Burde (IPS: 1993: MH).
