New Delhi (12.07.2025): In a significant move, as Indianmandarins reported earlier, the Centre on Friday appointed Sonali Mishra (MP: 1993) as the first woman Director General (DG) of the Railway Protection Force (RPF). She will take over from Manoj Yadava (IPS: 1988: HY) on his retirement on 31 July 2025. Currently, Sonali Mishra is serving as Special Director General in the Madhya Pradesh Police. Mishra's appointment is based on her credentials and competence, reflecting her distinguished service record. Recently, she was applauded for handling security arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bhopal in May 2025.
The Railway Protection Force plays a vital role in ensuring passenger safety, protecting railway infrastructure, and combating crimes across India's vast railway network.
She brings over three decades of experience, including key roles in central paramilitary forces. 
She worked as Inspector General of the Border Security Force becoming the first woman to lead this critical region along the 553-kilometer India-Pakistan border. 
Before taking over the Punjab Frontier she commanded the BSF’s Kashmir Frontier, where she managed operations along the volatile Line of Control under the Army's operational command. She also worked as Additional DG, BSF, North East Sector. 
She also had a stint in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), where she served as Superintendent of Police (SP) in the Anti-Corruption Branch (AC-3) at CBI Headquarters and later served as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Anti-Corruption Branch, Mumbai. During her tenure in CBI she played a key role in solving sensitive cases that led to convictions.
