Nivaran, a web-based platform, is being readied by the Railways for attending to the grievances of its employees including the retired ones. This has been prompted by railway employees resorting to social media to get their grievances redressed, since the Railways Ministry has been quick in responding to complaints made on social media, with a reply at times coming from minister Suresh Prabhu himself.
Recently, the son of a retired woman officer complained on Facebook that his mother's pension had not been revised for years. Within hours, the ministry's social media team chased the case down to Northern Railway, dug out the old pension order, and got it revised. But ministry officials are not very keen to encourage this practice, as it is likely to open a Pandora's box.
