Indianmandarins has reliably learnt that Anurag Jain's (IAS:1989:MP) central deputation tenure is being extended beyond June 10. His five year's tenure (under CSS) is coming to an end on June 10. But this may shortly be extended to be coterminous with the Prime Minister's tenure.
He was appointed JS, Dept of Financial Service, on June 10, 2011 and attracted a lot of attention in the power corridors when he was picked up as a member of PM's team on December 10, 2014.
While serving under central staffing scheme (CSS) tenure beyond five years said to be a rarity. consolidated guidelines on central deputation (December 2008) makes it clear that for a 'five plus two years' tenure it needs a combination of CSS & Non-CSS post. On the other hand, those who know the affairs say (citing some inferences) that aforesaid guidelines may not be applicable to Cabinet Secretariat and PMO. Clearly, Jain seems to be getting rewarded for his outstanding performance.
It was Jain who handled the OROP issue in the PMO. He also looks after Chemicals & Petrochemicals department as part of the PMO. An IIT graduate-turned-IAS, he is known for his IT skills and served as Secretary, CM Office in MP, between 2005 and 2011. While serving as JS, DFS, he served as Acting CMD of Export-Import Bank of India (December 2013 to February 2014 and an also as Interim CEO & MD of IFCI Limited (May 2013 to July 2013).
