New Delhi: A word of caution comes from none other than Congress president Rahul Gandhi to the Delhi Congress leadership to fight forthcoming Assembly elections in the state united amid reports that some of its leaders want the party to replace Delhi Congress president Sheila Dikshit with someone else. They were giving the alibi of her age to achieve their objective.

But Rahul Gandhi seems to have reposed his faith in Sheila Dikshit if the sources are to be believed. Apparently the Congress appears to be on revival path at least in Delhi despite the fact it has lost all the seven seats in 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Rahul Gandhi wants the state Congress leadership to put up a joint show in the next Assembly polls under the leadership of former Delhi chief minister that might happen sometimes in January 2020, which is not too far.

A section of Delhi Congress leadership wants her to go and have been campaigning for it. They have gone to the extent of writing a letter to replace her with some young leader. Sources said that meeting of senior Congress leaders held in Delhi on June 28 under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi in which former Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken and Delhi Congress in-charge P C Chako were also present, it was clearly stated that elections must be fought united.

The Congress, which was slipped to third position in Delhi in the past few years, has put up a good show under the leadership of Sheila Dikshit as it stood second on five seats in the recently held Lok Sabha elections pushing Aam Aadmi Party down to the third position. The Congress that had got 7 per cent in the last Assembly elections in Delhi managed to get 23.5 per cent votes in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections while AAP was stopped at 18 per cent votes.

Sources further said that actually backroom preparation by the state Congress president is going on continuously under the supervision of her son and former Lok Sabha MP Sandeep Dikshit. The Congress is emerging stronger by the day with Sheila Dikshit at the helm.

The Congress leadership is well aware about the fact that the former chief minister has a better ability, understanding of the city administration and organisation that is proving handy for her to manage things in Delhi. This will definitely help the Congress to put up a good show in the state. Looking at the present scenario, if the party manages 15-20 Assembly seats, it will not only keep its future prospects alive but also give a new energy to already demoralized workers of the party in the city.
