New Delhi (17.07.2026): In a move to entrust domain experts with specific responsibilities, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has appointed Dr Srinivasa Kumar Tummala, Head, Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (IOTWMS) Secretariat, UNESCO Inter-governmental Oceanographic Commission Secretariat, Perth, Australia, to the post of Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences for a tenure of two years. He is known as architect of India's Tsunami Warning Infrastructure.Dr Tummala had served as Director, Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS), Hyderabad before taking over the responsibility at IOTWMS in November 2024.
