The development has followed amid a high-level interaction between HSL Chairman and Managing Director Rear Admiral Chandrasekharan Raghuram and Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer at the Raj Bhavan.

The discussions prioritize India’s maritime self-reliance, and during the meeting, the HSL chief highlighted the shipyard’s operational turnaround and outlined the proper expansion plans aligned with the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

According to the official, HSL has been strategically planning the greenfield shipyard proposal as a part of the company’s expansion and exploration plans as per the Centre’s directives.

The potential locations classified for the greenfield facility are Machilipatnam in Krishna district and Dugarajapatnam in Tirupati district. The domestic shipbuilding landscape is majorly led by public sector undertakings along with some private players. Some major shipyards include Cochin Shipyard Ltd in Kochi, the largest facility in the country and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd.
