Last week, it appeared to have gone hyperactive. While holding selection interviews every working day is a rare thing, it conducted interviews for two board level positions for three consecutive days. On July 25, it selected Ghanshyam Sharma (Dir- Finance, HNL) for the post of Director (Finance) Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited (MECL). Similarly, it conducted interviews but failed to find a suitable candidate for the post of Director (Finance.) Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC). Next day, on July 26, it conducted selection interviews for Director (Personnel), HEC, and Director (Shipbuilding) Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited (GRSEL) and successfully selected Mradul Kumar Saxena (GM, MTNL) and Cmde Sanjeev Nayyar (WPS, MoD) for the posts respectively. On the third consecutive day, it selected Ms. Arundhati Panda (GM, BSNL) for Director (Finance) HEC and G Aravindan (GM, CPCL) for Director (Operations) Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd. It may be underlined that during UPA-II Govt, the PESB used to hold selection interviews for average 12-14 board level positions every month but after NDA Govt came to power in May 2014, the number of selection interviews per month started declining in the aftermath of dozens of rejections by the ACC which were recommended by the PESB for board level positions in CPSEs.. Further, a time came when the PESB stopped advertising board level posts in CPSEs following the notification of Govt of India made on June 10, 2016, opening doors for State PSEs' executives and Private Sector executives. However, the lull continued until DOPT on 22 February cleared the way by approving eligibility criteria for SPSE & Pvt Sector candidates for Board level positions in CPSEs.
