New Delhi (26.08.2021): It is certainly a proud moment for 85-year-old former IPS officer and former Uttar Pradesh DGP Prakash Singh as his son and Rajasthan cadre IPS officer Pankaj Singh (IPS:1988:RJ) will be taking over the same responsibility on September 01, 2021. The Union Government on Wednesday appointed Singh as the Director-General of Border Security Force (BSF); a coveted position which his father too held in 1993-1994. Prakash Singh, a Padmashri awardee, is known for introducing key police -eforms.

BSF guards over 6,300 kms of India's fronts with Pakistan and Bangladesh and has about 2.65 lakh personnel.

Singh (58), presently Special DG at the BSF headquarters (Delhi) will take over from its interim DG S S Deswal (IPS:1984:HY) retiring this month-end.

Pankaj Singh has served in the Rajasthan Police as well as in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), during which he cracked an infamous sex scandal that had rocked Jammu and Kashmir besides being involved in solving several cases related to corruption. A serving minister, several high-profile bureaucrats, and individuals were arrested in the politically sensitive sex scandal in Jammu and Kashmir.
