padsalgikar-jaiswal-took-over-as-maha-dgp-mumbai-cp-respectivelyAs reported earlier D D Padsalgikar (IPS:1982:MH) took over as Maharashtra DGP whereas Subodh Kumar Jaiswal (IPS:1985:MH) took charge as the new police commissioner of Mumbai. Mumbai Police Commissioner Padsalgikar handed over the baton to Jaiswal and replaced Satish Mahtur (IPS:1981:MH) who retired today (30 June). Earlier Jaiswal served at Centre as Additional Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat. Prior to that he R&AW. As the chief of the SIT he probed the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam and also probed the September 2006 Malegaon blast case. The power corridors have started speculating that Jaiswal, the second-most senior IPS officer after Padsalgikar in the state, could be picked as the next DGP in the event of Padsalgikar's retirement on August 31. Further, Sanjay Barve (IPS:1987:MH), recently promoted as DG & currently MD of Maharashtra State Security Corporation, is seen as another contender for the post of the Mumbai police commissioner. However, D D Padsalgikar can get a longer tenure, as a recent SC judgement laid down that once appointed, a DGP should have a fixed tenure of two years notwithstanding his or her date of superannuation.
