Officer-trainees of the Indian Foreign Service (2017 batch) called on the President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind. Addressing the officer-trainees, the President said that they are joining the service at an exciting time as India is expanding its global footprint. He further said that we are securing our interests in every part of the world and are also taking the lead on critical issues affecting global peace, security and progress, be it fighting terrorism or enhancing efforts to combat climate change. He emphasised that economic diplomacy is a priority for the country. Our aspirations place new responsibilities on the IFS. The President wished that the officer-trainees would make the best of the opportunity. The President said that the job for the IFS Officers is clearly laid out. He asked them to maintain robust relations with all the friends and partners to fashion a secure and prosperous environment and meet developmental aspirations. They have to engage, contest and reconstruct global governance structures that adequately reflect and accommodate country's interests.
