1852New Delhi (24.10.2023): Following the approval of VRS in a
record three-days’ time by the Centre and on expected lines the Naveen Patnaik
Administration appointed V Kartikeya Pandian (Retd IAS: 2000: OD) as the
Chairman of 5T (Transformational Initiative) and Nabin Odisha in the rank of
Cabinet Minister on Vijayadashmi. The notification of his appointment
categorically announced that Pandian in the new capacity will be directly reporting
to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik; a decision that virtually makes him second
most powerful political personality in the state. The 90-day VRS norm has also
been relaxed for Pandian. Taking a cue from the chronology of the Odisha Govt’s
communication and Centre’s quick move on Pandian’s VRS and his appointment in
the rank of Cabinet Minister in quick succession, the message appears to be loud
and clear that Pandian’s transition from a bureaucrat to an all-powerful
political leader of the state is complete.
