Chennai (24.10.2023): In yet another confrontation with the government, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi (Retd IPS: 1976: KL) has rejected the DMK government's recommendation to appoint former Director General of Police (DGP) C Sylendra Babu (Retd IPS: 1987: TN) as Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) and another academic as member citing lack of transparency and inconsistency with constitutional provisions. The governor has directed the government to carry out the process afresh.
The Governor pointed out that the Supreme Court judgment of 2017 has been flouted in the appointment which was secured by the DMK government only against the then AIADMK government. Reportedly the post of TNPSC Chairman was kept vacant to accommodate Sylendra Babu who is 61 now. The upper age limit for the post of chairman is 62.
