Ranchi (30.03.2026): NLC India Limited has officially commenced coal production at the Pachwara South Coal Block in Jharkhand, marking a major milestone for the company’s upcoming thermal power expansion and strengthening India’s domestic fuel security.
Strategic Fuel Supply for Ghatampur Power Plant
The coal block will supply fuel to the 3 × 660 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Project being developed in Ghatampur by Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL).
NUPPL is a joint venture between NLC India and UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited, with an equity split of 51:49.
The project is expected to significantly enhance power generation capacity in Uttar Pradesh and support rising electricity demand across northern India.
Pachwara South Coal Block: Key Details
The Pachwara South Coal Block, located in Dumka District, was allotted by the Ministry of Coal in October 2016.

- Extractable coal reserves: 264.84 million tonnes
- Normative mining capacity: 9 million tonnes per annum
- Coal grade: Average G10
- Project type: Open Cast Mine
The block was previously unexplored and has now been fully developed following extensive drilling and exploration.
