nit-srinagar-students-expose-kashmiriyat    Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani has been quick to sense the trouble at NIT Srinagar and dispatch a team of officials to understand the demands of students from outside the valley. The team was sent after students were attacked again, this time by Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) Police, causing injuries to many - an incident that attracted huge outrage and protest on social media on Tuesday. CRPF was deployed at the campus after the police action and subsequent outrage. From their demands, it looks very clear that the students - mostly those from outside the state - are scared and concerned about their physical safety and academic career. Students told the MHRD team that death threats were issued to them. Indianmandarins has learnt that many students, including girl students, told the team they were abused and threatened for merely shouting pro-India slogans, which were raised to oppose the event celebrating India's loss to West Indies in the T20 Cricket World Cup. One girl claimed that locals had even threatened to rape a girl student to 'teach a lesson' to the entire student community. Surely, the PDP-BJP working relationship is stressed: while Mehbooba may or may not be tempted to play the school girl politics of playing the Kashmiri card, the BJP is under severe pressure to display that it would stick to its nationalist agenda come what may. Deputy chief minister Nirmal Singh initially tried to wish away the issue saying there was a 'minor scuffle' between outside students and local policemen, but he was forced to backtrack and had a hard time saving his face. The problem is Kashmir has been pampered for far too long with Indian taxpayers' money. Even Namo has announced a huge package for the valley while the other more deserving areas, say for instance Bihar or Nagaland or Manipur, are denied similar packages. It goes without saying that unless the valley population is made to spend what they could earn legitimately, the Kashmiri Muslim supremacist and racial attitude is not going to disappear. NIT students from outside the valley deserve all support because what they have done - hoisting the Tricolor -is what our forces are fighting for. The HRD minister deserves a compliment for her quick response to the problems of NIT Srinagar students.
