New Delhi (05.07.2021): Talks about Shiv Sena joining the BJP has stretched a bit too long. There is a kind of unease on the ideological ground in Maha Vikas Agadhi (MVA) among the Shiv Sena and the other two partners namely the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party. This is keeping the matter of Shiv Sena and the BJP coming together alive and the recent statement of former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis that Shiv Sena is not an enemy once again given a new lease of life to the hope of Ghar Wapsi of Ship Sena. At least there had been two occasions ever since the MVA came into existence when it was almost certain that Shiv Sena would join the BJP. The latest being in November-December 2020 where several rounds of talks between the BJP and Shiv Sena took place in Mumbai but they failed to reach the desired outcome. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackrey’s one-to-one meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave new hope to people wanting the BJP and Shiv Sena to come together. The way Congress state president unilaterally announced contesting Mumbai and Thane municipal elections alone and claiming himself to be the next chief ministerial candidate made it certain that things are not honky dory in the alliance. Shiv Sena parted ways with the BJP on the issue of the post of the chief minister and talking about chief the ministerial candidate when elections are not even far in the sight, tells a different story. The story seems to be clear that everyone is looking for a better opportunity to jump the ship as COVID-19 handling has made the Maharashtra government more unpopular which was already criticized for entering into an unholy alliance.
