A lot of politicians and civil servants see a lot of meaning in Mukesh Ambani's direct and personal endorsement of Milind Deora, Congress candidate for South Mumbai LS constituency.

Even though the Reliance Industries chairman is not the only prominent businessperson (Uday Kotak, for instance, is another) to have lent his support to Deora, his support is seen enigmatic in view of Congress Party's chief campaigner Rahul Gandhi's tirade against his brother Anil Ambani.

Agreed, there is no love lost between the two brothers. But brothers remain brothers: remember how Mukesh recently bailed out Anil and averted his being sent to the clink,  by paying up the latter's dues to Swedish telecom giant Ericcson.

Maybe, as believed by some, Mukesh is hedging his bets by openly endorsing Milind. In addition, for Mukesh, it could be a way of expressing his displeasure with Shiv Sena whose candidate and incumbent MP Arvind Sawant hasn't particularly ingratiated himself with Mukesh. Nor has there ever been any love lost between the Thackerays and the Ambanis.

Nevertheless, political pundits consider Mukesh's support for Milind as an indicator for surprising results ahead. The argument is it's not at all normal for industrial houses to openly support parties and candidates.

Several civil servants believe that Mukesh Ambani is someone whose every single move is triggered by his business consideration and his open support to Milind could be a solace for Congress but disturbing to the BJP.
