Bhopal (10.01.2023): Over 500 Pravasi Bharatiya took to the way adopted by the first Pravasi i.e. Mahatma Gandhi, who reached India on January 9, 1915, to express their grievances. The day Mahatma Gandhi reached India is commemorated as Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD).
Several participants representing Indian Diaspora (Pravasi Bharatiya) protested outside the venue in Indore when they were bereft of their legitimate right to listen to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The occasion was marred with chaos and mismanagement as the hall where the programme was being organized had the capacity of 2200 people but 3000 participants reached the venue. Reportedly, authorities stopped them from entering the venue causing chaos and a big embarrassment but at whose cost?
The incident happened at a time when mammoth preparations, alignment and re-alignments are going on for the G20 Summit with a commitment for ‘zero error approach’ which is India’s biggest aspirational event scheduled for September 2023. PBD Indore’s mismanagement has apparently served as an alarm and caution.
The Indore mess has put a big question mark on organisers as PBD was attended by the PM while G20 too would have the PM attending it.
PBD has been a biennial summit since 2015 while it was a yearly event when started in 2003. One must understand that these events need precision and zero error.
