New Delhi (20.03.2021): The CBDT, CBIC, Railways, and Ministries/Departments have found a special mention in the CVC revelations against government organizations - marked for their sloppiness and retarded pursuit in pursuing vigilance cases. On the other hand, PSBs and CPSEs have been appreciated for their prompt action. Appearing before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice, the CVC reportedly said the reason for the delay in following up on its reports by central ministries/departments could be political and influence-peddling. In view of the above, the Committee in a report, 106th on the Demands of Grants of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, Law & Justice, has asked the CVC to devise ways to fix accountability for inaction or delayed action. The committee noted that in recent years, financial frauds have been escalating and turning more complex and complicated than before. So it advised the government to adequately fund the CVC to strengthen its preemptive surveillance capabilities and to help set up a centralized surveillance database with restrictive access. The report also spoke about the CVC's attempts at clearing cases: of 3,371 cases in received 2020, including 953 brought forward from the previous year, 2,717 cases were disposed of by way of tendering the advice. It was stated that the data for 2020 was tentative and under finalization. It was indicated that 654 cases might be moved forward to 2021. (By MK Shukla & Rakesh Ranjan)
