Thiruvananthapuram (13.12.2024):M R Ajith Kumar (IPS: 1995: KL), ADGP, is all set to be promoted as the Director General of Police (DGP) despite being under a vigilance inquiry for disproportionate asset allegations. He is already being investigated for his meeting with RSS leaders. A meeting of the IPS Screening Committee comprising the Chief Secretary, the DGP, the Home Secretary, and the vigilance director, approved his promotion.
He is slated to be promoted to DGP in July, 2025 when a vacancy arises. Kerala Chief Secretary Sarada Muraleedharan (IAS: 1990: KL) clarified that an official's promotion cannot be withheld solely due to a vigilance inquiry. As per rule promotions can only be denied if the official is awaiting trial after a chargesheet has been led, is under suspension, or has been served with a memo for disciplinary action.
