New Delhi (08.02.2024): Justice A M Khanwilkar, a former
Supreme Court judge, is likely to be appointed as the next Lokpal of India.
Reportedly the decision was made following a meeting held on Wednesday by a
high-level committee consisting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice
of India DY Chandrachud, and Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan
Chowdhury. Former Attorney General of India K K Venugopal also attended
the meeting, in which names shortlisted for the appointment of the next Lokpal
were reportedly discussed. The Lokpal is tasked with inquiring and
investigating allegations of corruption against public functionaries falling
within the scope and ambit of the Lokpal Act.
